With the September 2013 release of their third CD Rings Around the Sun, Vegas With Randolph begins a new chapter in their history of fun, catchy, and compelling writing and performing.
Early reviews of "Rings" are calling it:
"Their strongest disc to date. One of 2013's best, from a band that just keeps getting better." Absolute Powerpop, October 2013
"An absolute marvel to behold for lovers of Power Pop...chock full of crafty hooks, licks, melodies, harmonies and the bands lyrics are second to none. This album finds the band at the top of their game." Ice Cream Man, Powerpop and More, October 2013
"On their third release, the band furthers their formula of fun, upbeat, driving, intelligent rock and power pop... The results: STELLAR!!! A year end "Best Of" contender for sure!" KoolKatMusik.com, October 2013
"They have been a bright spot on the power pop landscape since their debut...a packed 14 tracks and all without any filler. Highly recommended." Powerpopaholic.com October 2013
VWR's music has been described as "ebullient, unabashed power pop", "thinking man's party music," and "blissful pop songwriting at its finest" and their music has been compared to Fastball, Sloan, Bowling for Soup, and Fountains of Wayne.
At the nucleus of VWR is the songwriting partnership of John Ratts and Eric Kern. Starting in high school, the duo has penned hundreds of songs, many of which have received radio airplay, use in TV and video, compilation CD's, and awards (2010 "Song of the Year" Twirlie award, a 2010 "Modern Rock Recording of the Year" Wammie, and EIGHTEEN Wammie Award nominations by the Washington Area Music Association between 2009 and 2014). In addition to Ratts and Kern the band includes a number of DC's most accomplished and highly creative musicians: Dan Aylestock, David Purol, Brock Harris, and Andy Hamburger.
VWR's self-titled debut CD was released in 2008 and followed by the EP "Side Trip" in 2009. In August 2011 their second full length CD "Above The Blue" was released followed by a series of east coast tour dates including the BMI Songwriter's showcase at DC's Hard Rock Cafe, and the International Pop Overthrow Festival in New York City. "Above The Blue" was critically acclaimed and was listed on multiple "Top CD's of 2011" lists in 2012.
In addition to the fall 2013 release of "Rings Around The Sun", the band has released songs on numerous compilation CD's, and contributed their re-imagining of the Little River Band's "Cool Change" to the 2013 tribute album "Drink A Toast To Innocence: A Tribute to Lite Rock".
VWR is currently performing live dates in support of the new album and beginning to write new material and look ahead to recording sessions for a CD #4.
